The Big Bang Typhoon (ビッグバンタイフーン Biggu Ban Taifuun?) is one of Rufus's special attacks, first introduced as his second Ultra Combo in Super Street Fighter IV and later appearing as his Super Art in Street Fighter X Tekken. It is a much more powerful and advanced version of his Galactic Tornado.

Description[]

Big Bang Typhoon

Big Bang Typhoon in use against Ken in Super Street Fighter IV.

Executed by performing two quarter-circle backward motions and pressing all three punch buttons, Rufus swings his arms in air in a strange martial pose and spins 360° at an extremely high speed, delivering lightning-fast palm strikes at the same time. Upon the combo's end, he tops it off by performing another odd pose, this one being very similar to his EX Galactic Tornado palm strike pose.

Tactics[]

The attack itself is very useful for Rufus in terms of getting past projectile users, as Rufus can close in on them, and pull the opponent towards him from a distance. It can be used as an anti-air, and also has armor breaking properties. Compared to Space Opera Symphony, Big Bang Typhoon isn't as seamlessly integrated into Rufus's gameplan due to it's much reduced combability. It becomes more useful against projectile zoners to catch their startup and recovery on prediction. Even against said opponents Rufus's first Ultra is just as seamless against anyone else in the roster. In general the more aggressively oriented Rufus's opponent is the less useful Big Bang Typhoon becomes in comparison.

In Street X Tekken this attack has more functionality at the expense of doing less damage overall. It can be used in combos much more easily. It is one of the best anti airs in the game, a player can even react to a jump in, use Cross Assault and immediately follow up with Big Bang Typhoon in an incoming aerial opponent.

There are two versions of this attack in Street X Tekken, the first one is if it hits a grounded opponent, this version does some hits before the cinematic. The anti air version goes straight into the cinematic. When Rufus is fighting against a Cross Assault it is recommended to look for a jump from an opponent to try and catch them with the aerial tornado to both stall out the remaining time and go into the instant cinematic and deny the partner of the hit character a chance to save their ally.

Trivia[]

  • The Damage this move causes 360, which symbolizes the degree turn.
