Dogs are domesticated canids which have been selectively bred over millennia for various behaviours, sensory capabilities, and physical attributes. Being the oldest domesticated animal, their long association with people has allowed dogs to be uniquely attuned to human behavior, as well as thrive on a starch-rich diet which would be inadequate for other canid species. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the sobriquet, "man's best friend". Dogs have some appearances in the Final Fight and Street Fighter series.
Dogs in the series[]
Shiro[]
Shiro (シロ?) is the white dog that appears four times barking in the background of the Bay Area stage from Final Fight. Shiro is a good friend of Sabu.[1] In the SNES and GBA versions, each of the four dogs give a bonus to the player when standing in front of them:[2]
Dog | Final Fight (SNES) | Final Fight Guy and Final Fight One |
---|---|---|
1st | Add 1000 points every 4 seconds | Add 10 points every 0.5 seconds |
2nd | Add 1 credit every 60 seconds | Add 1 credit every 20 seconds |
3rd | Add 1 life every 60 seconds (disabled at 9 lives) | Restore 1 unit health almost instantly (30 units every second) |
4th | Restore 1 unit health every second | Add 1 life every 30 seconds (disabled at 9 lives) |
Note | The dog will move faster when standing in the right position | The dog will stop moving when standing in the right position |
Shiro (or a similar dog) also appears in Guy's stage from Street Fighter Alpha 2 along with other Final Fight characters.
Sabu[]
Sabu (サブ?) is the domestic dog from Guile's daughter, seen in his ending from Street Fighter II. Sabu and Shiro are good friends.[1] In Street Fighter 6 it's revealed that she's given birth to three pups.[3]
Sakura's Dog[]
Sakura has a white dog (possibly of the traditional Japanese breed akita inu) that is seen in her stage from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and in her ending from Super Street Fighter IV.
Abel's Dog[]
In Super Street Fighter IV, Abel found a small white dog alone in the street during a rainy night and took him in. When Abel enters the S.I.N. tournament, he leaves the puppy with a friend and says that afterwards he will name the dog and buy him a collar.
Final Fight: Streetwise Dogs[]
German Shepherds appear as enemies inside the Bijou Hotel, biting Kyle's leg or jumping on him. The random names of these attack dogs are Baron, Bobo, Coco, Comet, Dodger, Junior, Killer, Nightmare, Pain, Rex, Ripper, Rusty, Spott, and Trouble.
Others[]
- Dogs can also be seen in the background of several stages, like Ken's stage in Street Fighter Alpha 2, the London stage in Street Fighter III: New Generation, in the Run-down Back Alley, and in the Apprentice Alley.
- Byron Taylor has five bulldogs.
In other media[]
Attila[]
Attila is Ken's dog (possibly a rottweiler) in Street Fighter II V. Ken says that his dog usually isn't friendly with guests, but Attila got a liking for Ryu the first time they met.
