Dark Sakura, also known as Sunburned/Suntanned Sakura (日焼けしたさくら Hiyakeshita Sakura?), is a video game character originating from the Marvel vs. Capcom series, first appearing in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter as a secret fighter. This is a form Sakura has taken after accidently being burnt by the sun, gaining abilities similar to users of the Satsui no Hado, except without the loss of humanity.
Biography[]
Appearance[]
Dark Sakura's appearance is generally the same as her normal counterpart, albeit with darker shade on her skin. Her bloomer shorts are black instead of the traditional red, her hair gains a red hue similar to that of Akuma's, and her school uniform is black and gray rather than the traditional blue and white. When she uses the Shun Goku Satsu, her eyes change from brown to red. The fighting gloves, headband, and shoes remain the same.
History[]
In Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Dark Sakura is a secret character who utilizes a mixed moveset between her normal self and Akuma/Evil Ryu, including performing the Hadoken horizontally instead of diagonally. The player can unlock her by holding Start, moving to Hulk on the character select, holding right for five seconds, and then pressing either Light and Heavy Punch or Light and Heavy Kick in that order.
Though Dark Sakura isn't a playable character in Street Fighter Alpha 3, she is referenced in the Japanese versions of the game when Sakura says her win quote against Akuma: "I'm scared... I want to move forward... What is this feeling..."
While she isn't an individual character in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, she is a Hyper Combo transformation for regular Sakura, accesed by inputting a reverse Z and a Light Kick.
Story[]
During her summer vacations, Sakura trained with Ryu in a tropical beach, learning many new techniques and getting tanned.[1]
Taking a break between matches while in the Marvel Universe, Sakura laid down in a field and fell asleep. When she awoke, she found herself unusually sunburned for the short duration that she had lain there.[citation needed]
Though slightly in pain, she proceeded to compete in the effort to defeat Apocalypse. However, not only did she find that her original fighting style had returned, she was even more powerful than before. Over the course of the events, her sunburned faded and her fighting abilities returned to the way they were when she first arrived.[citation needed]
Comics[]
In UDON's Super Street Fighter comics, Sakura falls to the Satsui no Hado and becomes Dark Sakura while fighting both Akuma and Ryu. She eventually loses and returns to normal when Ryu absorbs the dark power from her.[2]
Trivia[]
- Of all playable characters, with the exception of Rogue (who uses an X instead of a kanji) in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, who can perform the Shun Goku Satsu (including those from Capcom crossovers), Dark Sakura is the only one that does not have a personal kanji appear at the conclusion of the Hyper Combo, with petals from a cherry blossom appearing instead. Although, that could reflect Sakura's innocence and wide-eyed enthusiasm, as when she confronted Gen in the Sakura Ganbaru! manga, he said that while Sakura was using a fighting style used for assassination, she used it without any killing intent whatsoever and that she represented the light inside the darkness.
