Final Fight 2 (ファイナルファイト2 Fainaru Faito Tsū?), released in 1993, is the second game in the Final Fight series, set in the Street Fighter universe. Unlike the original Final Fight, Final Fight 2 was never released in the arcade and was instead developed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

Story

After Belger's death in the previous game, the Mad Gear Gang is presumably destroyed and that the trio of Cody, Haggar, and Guy, who had succeeded in their rescue mission of saving Jessica from the Mad Gear Gang, are celebrated as the heroes of Metro City by the public, who had sought and wanted peace and happiness for many years in Metro City itself. In due time after their battle against the Mad Gear Gang, Cody and Jessica go on a personal vacation while Guy departs on a personal training journey of his own, leaving Haggar to return to his own duties of office as the Mayor of Metro City. Unknown to the heroes however, the remaining members of Mad Gear had silently withdrew from Metro City after Belger's death and sought revenge against the trio, reinventing themselves as an international criminal organization under the leadership of a new boss and while Guy is away training, Mad Gear kidnaps both Guy's girlfriend Rena and her father Genryusai. Rena's sister, Maki calls Haggar for help, informing him that she has a potential lead in which a small group of Mad Gear members are currently stationed in Hong Kong via their own local criminal activity there. Haggar agrees to meet and rendezvous with Maki in Hong Kong while being accompanied by a martial artist currently studying under him named Carlos Miyamoto, who volunteers to help out as well, stating that he owes both Haggar and Guy for an unknown past debt to the two of them.[1]

The trio arrive in Hong Kong and soon smash the local Mad Gear operation there, interrogating the local ringleader Won Won, who informs them that Mad Gear's base of operations had been moved to Europe, and that Rena and Genryusai were taken there. From there, Haggar, Maki, and Carlos head to Europe and break up local Mad Gear operations in several countries until encountering Rolento in Italy. After being defeated, Rolento informs them that if they want to save Rena and Genryusai, they must travel back to Japan and fight his new master, but Rolento himself also warns the trio that his new master is the most powerful man in the world and that they will surely die by his own two hands.[1]

Upon following the trail to Japan, the trio of Haggar, Maki, and Carlos soon confronts the new leader of Mad Gear, Retu while Rena and Genryusai hang suspended via ceiling rope. After a tough and intense fight, Maki kicks Retu out a window to his death, echoing Belger's own fate from the first game. After the final fight against Retu and the complete destruction of the Mad Gear Gang, Maki emotionally reunites with her family, with both Rena and Genryusai gratefully thanking her, Haggar, and Carlos for having to help save them from the current danger and in due time, Rena writes to and sends Guy a personal letter, asking him to finish his training as soon as possible so that the two of them can be together again, to which Guy, who had gotten the letter afterwards while traveling on board a ship, promises Rena that he'll be home soon while also thanking his friends for helping him, Rena, and Genryusai out.[1]

Gameplay

The game can be played by up to two players simultaneously, with each player controlling a different character. Before the game begins, the player chooses between the three main characters:

Each has his or her own fighting style and attributes. Maki is the weakest but has faster attacks, Haggar is the strongest but also the slowest, and Carlos has all-round attributes.

The controls consists of the d-pad and two buttons for attacking and jumping. The player character can move in any of the eight directions, but can only face and attack to the left or right like in most beat-'em-ups. Pressing both buttons simultaneously performs a special move that attacks in both directions, though it uses a little health. Players can also grab and throw opponents, as well as use various weapons such as 2x4s and nightsticks.

Rounds

Final Fight consists of six stages or "rounds", as well as two bonus rounds. Each round takes place in a different country, with most rounds featuring more than one level. At the end of each round the player will face a boss character unique to that round. The rounds and bosses are:[1]
