The Light of Virtue (ヴェルテュの残光, Verutyu/Vertu no Zankō, lit. "Afterglow of Virtue") is one of Remy's special attacks in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

Input
High Arcade Stick CBArcade-Stick-Right+Arcade Button Punch
Low Arcade Stick CBArcade-Stick-Right+Arcade Button Kick

Description[]

Executed by charging backward then pressing forward and either punch or kick, Remy throws a crescent-shaped projectile similarly to Guile's or Charlie's Sonic Boom (i.e. one-handed with an open palm). It has a high variant (ヴェルテュの残光・オット, Verutyu/Vertu no Zankō - Otto/Haute, lit. High) and a low variant (ヴェルテュの残光・バス, Verutyu/Vertu no Zankō - Basu/Basse, lit. Low) depending on whether the player inputs with punch or kick, similarly to Sagat's Tiger Shot.

The EX Special version fires two projectiles, a regular one based on the version used (high for punches or low for kicks) and another one in an arc, both at the same time.

Tactics[]

While Light of Virtue is functionally similar to the Sonic Boom and Tiger Shot, the existence of parrying greatly alters how it is used. Since Remy does not gain meter from throwing projectiles alone, only gets the same small amount on block and hit, and the opponent gets significantly more meter on parry, simply throwing Light of Virtues out is an incredibly risky strategy.

Remy is able to 'machine gun' his Light of Virtues with proper timing. Since the attack carries both the Sonic Boom's low recovery and the Tiger Shot's varying heights, Remy can have both variants on screen at the same time, given that they are considered separate projectiles. Remy can then use EX High Light of Virtue after a regular low version to make the attack safe on parry and catch the opponent trying to jump over the normal one. However, the opponent can also choose to simply block, and since Remy gains very little meter from successful hits, he can likely run out of meter for this tactic if not careful.

Light Punch Light of Virtue is capable of hitting opponents that quick recover if hit meaty, regardless of whether or not they attempt to crouch under it. This puts Remy at a good frame advantage, allowing him to either throw the opponent, link Close Medium Kick into Supreme Rising Rage Flash, or Crouching Medium Punch into another Light of Virtue. Though this gives Remy some powerful pressure especially in the corner, it requires extremely precise charging for his more damaging options.
