Description[]

"A series of high-speed uppercuts. Slow to execute, but does massive damage if you manage to land it."

Machine Gun Upper

Machine Gun Upper, as seen in Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival.

Executed by charging downward then pressing upward and punch, Dee Jay performs a series of an extremely fast repeated uppercut with his following arm, initially starting at gut level and gradually to above-chin level.

Dee Jay also makes a distinctive rhythmic battle cry during the move (""Dadadadadadadadadah!" in Super Street Fighter II or "LalalalalalalalalalalalaBOOLA!" in Super Street Fighter IV).

The strength of the attack depends on the punch button; the light punch does the least damage and stun, and the heavy punch does the most. It can knock down an opponent if the player taps the punch button properly.

The EX Special version introduced in Super Street Fighter IV does five hits on its own, and can get up to eight hits with repeated but precisely timed punch presses. It also acts as a launcher, throwing the opponent into the air where Dee Jay can land additional attacks before the opponent can fall to the ground.

In Ultra Street Fighter IV's OMEGA Mode, as Dee Jay is a command input character in this mode, this attack is now executed by performing a quarter-circle back motion and pressing punch. Punch buttons can still be rapidly tapped for more hits, which will cause Dee Jay to end the attack with an uppercut with his other fist. The EX version also recieved a major overhaul. Dee Jay performs six 2-hit rapid punches before ending with an uppercut for a total of 13 hits.

In Street Fighter 6, Machine Gun Upper is also a quarter-circle input much like OMEGA Mode. It can no longer be mashed.

Tactics[]

This technique is a good option to finish combos or generally punish missed attacks. In the Street Fighter IV series, it can be used to juggle an opponent into Dee Jay's second Ultra Combo.

Machine Gun Upper, while slow, is incredibly damaging. The OD Version deals a massive 2500 damage, higher than most Level 1 Super Arts. Landing the stronger versions require a Drive Rush or Punish Counter Heavy Punch or Face Breaker to land, but can be juggled or cancelled to Super Arts for even higher damage.

Trivia[]

  • In Super Turbo the CPU Dee Jay was able to do much more hits than human players, in harder difficulties the CPU could almost deplete the life bar with one connecting hit of this attack.
