The kick (キック) is a type of "normal attack" seen in the Street Fighter series.  There are three types of kicks, known interchangeably by their official names (Light, Medium, and Heavy Kick) or their names as seen on the American Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Short, Forward, Roundhouse).

The kick button is usually 'tied' to attacks performed with the lower half of the body. As with the punch button, it is the basis of many special attacks, such as the Flash Kick, every type of Tatsumaki attack, and some Unique Attacks such as Spin Kick, though in some occasions the kick button may simply be used for a special attack input to avoid input overlap.

Types[]

  • Arcade-Button-LKick A light kick, also known as a short kick, is a fast kick with varying range. Crouching Light Kicks are often the fastest low-hitting attack a character has, making them vital for quick light confirms into special attacks.

  • Arcade-Button-MKick Medium kicks, also known as forward kicks, are slightly slower than light kicks but have longer range or more hitstun to compensate. Crouching Medium Kicks are most commonly used as low-hitting pokes that can be special-cancelled to confirm into a combo, making them vital tools in neutral.

  • Arcade-Button-HKick Heavy kicks, also known as hard kicks or roundhouses, are slower than medium kicks but have even more range or damage. Crouching Heavy Kicks are commonly used as Sweeps, low-hitting attacks that knock the opponent down and let the attacker gain initiative while they recover.

Trivia[]

  • Due to the variety of fighting styles across the series, some fighters do not strictly adhere to their kick buttons being used for leg-based attacks.
    • Dudley's, Balrog's, and Ed's (in Street Fighter 6) movesets lack any actual kicks due to their boxing styles. Ed uses long-range Flicker Jabs for his kick buttons, while Balrog occasionally uses his feet for attacks such as Stomping Combo.
    • Elena's moveset is based in Capoeira, and thus consists entirely of kicks, even for attacks on punch buttons.
    • Juri's moveset has her perform kicks for her Heavy Punches.
