"This way!"
—Chun-Li

Kakukyakuraku (鶴脚落 Kakukyakuraku?, "Crane Leg Fall") is one of Chun-Li's and Shadow Lady's signature unique attacks. It made its official debut in Street Fighter II': Champion Edition and was known early on as the Flipping Neck Breaker. It is renamed Falling Crane in Street Fighter 6.

Description[]

Kakukyakuraku

Executed by moving down-forward and pressing Heavy Kick (since Super Street Fighter II Turbo), Chun-Li jumps and flips to her opposite side and hits her opponent with a backward-facing landing stomp. Shadow Lady also performs this move the same way and with the same command in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.

In its first three appearances (Street Fighter II': Champion Edition, Street Fighter II': Hyper Fighting, and Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers), the move is executed by moving forward and pressing Heavy Kick at close range.

In Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, however, Chun-Li instead literally performs a flying kick motion towards her prior position, almost akin to a one-legged kick version of her Tenshin Shuu Kyaku from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

In Street Fighter 6, Chun-Li flips to the other side before throwing out a knee to the back of their head.

This move is often considered to be a staple flying-overhead command normal, though it can also be used as a cross-up if positioned right due to the angling of Chun-Li's leg. If this attack whiffs however, she can be punished. However, the actual utility of this attack often varies from game to game.

In Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, the attack is now solely meant for cross-up as it no longer has a hitbox in front of where Chun-Li lands due to its new animation, which limits but at the same time expands on its uses.

Trivia[]

  • This attack is fully integrated and functional in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, but it can not be accessed without modification devices.
  • Another unique attack, the Kohokaitenkyaku (or Chest Flip Kick, as it was known early on), also debuted in Street Fighter II': Champion Edition and is executed with the same command input as the Kakukyakuraku, but with a weaker kick button (Light Kick in the Street Fighter IV series, and Medium Kick in all other appearances).
