Description[]

Tsurugi

Makoto's Tsurugi hits Ryu's head in the Street Fighter IV series.

Executed by performing a quarter-circle backward motion and pressing kick while in the middle of a neutral or forward jump (or any jump in the Street Fighter IV series), Makoto performs a flying axe kick which must be blocked high. The stronger the kick button pressed, the more damage the attack will inflict. The Light and Medium Kick versions stun the opponent, while the Heavy Kick and EX Special versions knock them down, with the EX Special doing the most damage.

Tactics[]

This move can be used to avoid certain anti-air attacks. It allows Makoto to approach her opponent by jumping, as well as her usual ground-based approach. The first two versions can initiate combos as well. Against an airborne foe, the medium kick version will throw the opponent backwards instead of down. This can then be followed up with either an EX Hayate (anywhere on the stage but gives a soft knockdown) or an EX Oroshi (only if the opponent is cornered when the kick connects but leads to a hard knockdown).

Trivia[]

  • This attack is very similar in motion to Hammer Kick, with the differences being execution, and its startup frames.
