The Haoh Gadoken (覇王我道拳 Haou Gadouken?, "Supreme King Self Way Fist") is Dan's second Ultra Combo in Super Street Fighter IV. It is also his first V-Trigger in Street Fighter V. The move is an obvious parody of the Haoh Shokoken from the SNK side of fighting games, much like the rest of Dan's moves.

Description[]

In Street Fighter IV, executed by performing two quarter-circle forward motions and pressing all three kick buttons, Dan charges up a full-powered, two-handed version of his original Gadoken and shoots it at his opponent; after performing the attack, Dan is shown flying backwards, insinuating that the force of the attack itself was too much for him to handle. It is even stronger than the Shinku Gadoken in terms of damage, and hits six times.

In Street Fighter V, it can be executed by pressing Heavy Punch and Heavy Kick simultaneously. Dan finally improves the Haoh Gadoken with extra careful on focusing its ki limit, and release the projectile without flying himself backward.

Tactics[]

Despite its enormous power, the distance of the attack is still very limited, just like the original Gadoken, thus preventing it from inflicting much damage at long range. In addition, the startup to the move is slow, and as the invincibility frames only covers the beginning portion of the startup animation, it is possible to hit Dan before the projectile comes out, limiting its already low overall usefulness. However, the post-attack roll can help prevent counterattacks, and it noticeably covers more vertical space. Also, due to the fact that Dan leans far back before launching the attack just after startup, it is possible for him to catch and punish most jump-ins with this Ultra Combo, cross-up or not.

Dan's Haoh Gadoken in Street Fighter V.

In Street Fighter V, Haoh Gadoken is Dan's first V-Trigger and only has one V-Gauge bar. Due to its low cost, it can be used frequently in a match as a hit confirm off various stray normals, even allowing Dan to combo after it with his special moves. It can also be used as an unorthodox projectile, as its slow speed and ability to absorb three projectile hits can help Dan advance. When fully charged, Haoh Gadoken breaks guards and wall bounces opponents, however it is harder to get the full charge due to the existence of V-Shift and the lengthy startup. However, one must be aware of their V-Gauge when picking this trigger, as often a single combo's worth of damage is enough to fill it, and any more damage beyond that gives Dan less opportunities to use Haoh Gadoken.

Trivia[]

  • Dan had a very similar move in SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos, called the Gado Shokoken. Unlike the Haoh Gadoken, it was a special move which consisted of a Haoh Shokoken with very slow startup and traveled almost the same distance as a normal Gadoken, but did strong damage.
  • Dan's quote of "I've got no choice!" (使わざるを得ねぇ Tsukawazaru wo enee!?) pays homage to an infamous cutscene in the original Art of Fighting where Ryo Sakazaki remarks "I've got no choice but to use the Haoh Shokouken" (覇王翔吼拳を使わざるを得ない Haou Shokouken wo tsukawazaru wo enai?) in regards to his opponent John Crawley's usage of weapons. The quote is popular among fans due to the absurd nature of the scene, as Ryo is driving a motorcycle without any protective gear and John Crawley himself does not use any weapons during the fight.
