The Hyakuretsukyaku (百裂脚, Hyakuretsukyaku, "Hundred Rending Legs"), commonly known as Lightning Kick, is one of Chun-Li's signature special attacks. It made its first appearance in the original Street Fighter II. In the Street Fighter IV series, this is one of the many moves copied by Seth.

Artwork of Chun-Li's Hyakuretsukyaku for Street Fighter II.

Executed by pressing rapidly and repeatedly any kick button, Chun-Li stands on one leg and kicks rapidly, or "at the speed of lightning", with her other leg extended out. The kicks come out with incredible speed and power, and can land several hits. These several hits can add up to an impressive amount of damage when not blocked, and does a small amount of chip damage even when blocked. This move works similarly to E. Honda's Hundred Hand Slap, Blanka's Electric Thunder and Gen's Hyakurenko.

In earlier SFII games, if most of the hits connect unblocked, they could give the foe a dizzy status. This move is considered deadliest when used against a cornered foe due to the limited amount of space to escape it, even when blocked.

As seen in her sprite from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, the kicks used in this move are standing side kicks.

In the Vs. series games, Chun Li gains the ability to perform the Hyakuretsukyaku in midair, enabling quite a few routes for air combos, especially if depending on the game, Chun-Li happens to have a midair Hyper Combo on the ready to be cancelled into.

The EX version of this move starts up much quicker and launches the opponent into the air, allowing Chun-Li to follow up with another EX Hyakuretsukyaku, an EX Spinning Bird Kick or even an Ultra Combo.

In Street Fighter X Tekken, performing this requires the use of a half-circle forward motion, as it serves as the basis for her Super Art, Senretsukyaku. Hyakuretsukyaku can be Super Charged if the button is held down for several seconds instead of tapping it repeatedly.

Seth's version

Description

Executed by pressing a quarter-circle backward motion and kick, Seth adapts a modified version of the Hyakuretsukyaku, in which he nails the opponent with a heavy kick; as they spin in place, he hits them with a very quick kick, and draws his leg back as the opponent is hit 16 times by an unseen force. Seth slides while performing the move, and the distance is determined by the strength of the kick button (the heavier the kick pressed, the greater the distance). The EX version of this attack allows him to slide even further with temporary invincibility against strikes and projectiles.

An animation glitch known as Akuma's Seizure originated from this move.

Trivia

  • In Devil May Cry 3, Dante possesses the Hyakuretsukyaku, as an ending to his Beowulf Combo II. After two punches, Dante performs a flurry of kicks before ending with an axe kick, much like Evil Ryu's Ryusokyaku. As with most of Beowulf's moves, these kicks can be charged to do more damage. In Marvel vs. Capcom 3, this becomes a followup move called Beehive.
