Jun utilizing Nishokyaku

The Nishokyaku (二翔脚 Nishoukyaku?, "Two Soaring Legs"), also known informally as the "Dragon Kicks" or "Up Kicks", is one of Yun's special attacks, introduced in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. It replaces the Senkyutai used in previous games.

Input
All appearances Shoryuken motion+Kick

Description[]

Executed by performing a "Shoryuken" motion (forward, downward then down-forward) and pressing kick, Yun performs a pair of alternating jumping kicks, leading with the back leg.

The distance and height are determined by the kick button pressed: the light kick version barely leaves the ground; the medium kick version goes about half a screen's distance to the top; and the heavy kick version goes all the way to the top of the screen. The EX Special version travels twice as quickly at the heavy kick version's height.

Tactics[]

The attack's hitbox and trajectory make it difficult to use as a truly effective anti-air[1], but it can be useful for juggles, especially in the open for the lighter versions or in the corner with either version. Having Genei Jin active also doubles its effectiveness.

Trivia[]

  • This move shares many similarities with the Renkantai (連環腿? "Chain Loop Thigh"); the move is used by characters in many other fighting games who also utilize other moves from the same/similar fighting styles:
    • Athena Asamiya from The King of Fighters series, done as a command normal unlike most other examples which have been special moves so far.
    • Kyou Kusanagi from The King of Fighters series, through his 75 Shiki: Kai (七拾五式: 改? "Method 75 Revise") as a special from The King of Fighters '95-onwards (which is a literal modified version of his close standing heavy kick animation from The King of Fighters '94).
    • Zhen Yuanzai/Chin Gentsai from The King of Fighters series as of The King of Fighters XIII, as both a command normal and special called the Nikikyaku (二起脚? "Two Rousing Legs").
      • Leo Kliesen from the Tekken series and Reika from Martial Masters also possess the same exact technique as Gentsai, albeit with the former's version written in pinyin as Er Qi Jiao in the localizations, and having a singluar straight-kick version known as the Yi Qi Jiao/Ikkikyaku (一起脚? "One Rousing Leg").
      • Chun-Li herself in some of her movesets has the Nikikyaku as one of her jumping normal attacks in some Street Fighter installments, mainly playable versions based on her Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike animations.
    • Michelle and Julia Chang's Double Lift Kick AKA Soukikyaku (双起脚? "Twin Rousing Legs") from the Tekken series.
    • Miyako Arima from Kagetsu Tohya in the Melty Blood series. However, her medium/B-version Renkantai in Type Lumina is unique from several other versions in that it hits overhead but with no invulnerability frames whatsoever.
    • Rin Tohsaka and Kirei Kotomine from Fate/Unlimited Codes.
    • Akira Yuuki from the Virtua Fighter series.
    • Kokoro from the Dead or Alive series possesses the Renkantai, while her sister Helena Douglas (who is a Piguaquan user) uses the Nikikyaku.
    • Enkidu AKA Enkidou Gaien of Under Night In-Birth.
    • Both Jin Long and Shenlong from the Bloody Roar series, with the former having the Renkantai move itself and the latter's version being called Niki Bunkyaku (二起分脚? "Two Rousing Segment Legs"), a take on the aforementioned Nikikyaku.
    • Lu Xun's Dynasty Warriors portrayal as of the seventh installment, where he possess a variation of it instead named as the Blaze Kick, AKA Enkantai (炎環腿? "Flame Loop Thigh), which acts as his Musou I attack.
    • Akira Kazama's Hotenshu is identical to the Nishokyaku in both appearance, design, and function.
    • Karin Kanzaki's Mujinkyaku has similar effects but hers does not leave the ground at all, and as mentioned above, is meant for juggles.
