Story[]

Round 1 "Rusted Fist"[]

The scene starts with the genius martial artist, Ken Masters winning another tournament, adding another trophy to his collection. Various people tried to interview Ken after another victory, but Ken leaves them behind. Despite winning another tournament Ken felt empty as the fight was fun or satisfying. Eliza congratulates Ken but notices his unhappy expression and asks what’s bothering him. Ken shrugs it off and reminds himself that he won and that's what matters. Eliza tells Ken that the person in charge told her that a key visitor is coming and that it's a woman.

Ken was already aware who it was since he saw her in the audience. That woman was Chun-Li who enters the room and greets the two, she arrived in America the night before due to work Ken asks if it's Shadaloo related but Chun-Li says "no comment", she immediately changes the subject telling Ken that she knows where Ryu is which shocks Ken. She gave him a letter that has more details on his location but she knows Ryu will definitely stay Japan for awhile.[1]

The next day Ken apologies to Eliza as he intends to fly to Japan to meet Ryu, despite this sudden departure he promises her that he’ll be back soon. However, Eliza wants to go as well since Ken hasn't been himself since Chun-Li mentioned Ryu. She asks why he needs to see Ryu when he's plenty strong already. Ken doesn't know himself, but he feels like something is missing and that fighting Ryu will reveal what that something is. Ken agrees to let Eliza go with him to Japan they both notice Chun-Li hasn't arrived yet and Ken rushes to go find her.

It turns Doctrine Dark ambushed Chun-Li when her guard was down and restrained her with his wires. Chun-Li tries to break free but D. Dark tells her it’s useless and that if killing her will allow him to fight Guile he'll do so without hesitation. Eventually, Chun-Li breaks free lands a combo on D. Dark. Before the two could continue their fight, D. Dark heard Ken yelling Chun-Li's name. Not wanting to fight a losing battle he quickly makes his exit warning Chun-Li not to get in his way in his fight with Guile or else he'll kill her. Ken enters the room and asked what happened, but Chun-Li tried to pass it off as some minor accident. When Ken asks if it's Shadaloo related, just like the day before, Chun-Li says "no comment". She wanted to stop at Guile's air force base beforehand, but she didn't want to involve him in another case. Ken's confused as to why she needs to go to Guile when he can fight alongside her at this moment, but Chun-Li reluctantly tells Ken that he's gotten weaker and that she noticed this in yesterday's match. Ken was taken aback from what he just heard, but Chun-Li tells Ken to meet Ryu as soon as possible if he doesn't believe her.

Round 2: "Bloodshed Bloodline"[]

Ken asks Chun-Li if it's really necessary to go to the Air Force Base when D. Dark could attack at any moment. She tells Ken that she'll be fine since D. Dark is her and Guile's problem to begin with. Chun-Li then goes onto say that as of now, she's much stronger than Ken, so there's no reason for him to try and protect her. She gives Ken an opportunity to prove her wrong but Ken uncharacteristically doesn't accept her challenge, she teases Ken some more before leaving reminding Ken to say hello to Ryu when he arrives in Japan.

Eliza tries to encourage Ken to go see Ryu and to keep moving forward like he usually does. However, Ken's frustrated and wonders if the reason he’s hesitating is because he's afraid of fighting Ryu then shortly after Ken sensed a strong amount of ki and tells Eliza to get back into the car. Ken wonders if this ki belongs to Akuma, but he realizes it's not him. The man was none other than Kairi who challenges the National Fighting Champion.[2][3]

The two clash and were evenly match, much to Eliza's surprise who's only witnessed Ken winning tournament after tournament. The two eventually back off, Ken asks Kairi if he knows who Akuma is as they’re both so similar he couldn't ignore it. However, Kairi has no idea who Akuma is, despite this Ken goes onto calling Kairi's fists "blood-stained" just like Akuma.[4] Kairi doesn't deny his words, he also believes it's the blood that flows through his body that makes him give off that impression but due to losing his memories he's unable to identify what the blood inside him comes from. He tells Ken that his blood is screaming at him to fight and he believes that if he continues to fight he'll eventually uncover his past, he then lets out a loud battle cry and rushes at Ken.

Kairi uses Sairo Kyoshu then follows up with Shinki Hatsudo which knocks Ken to the ground. Since Ken didn't get up immediately, Kairi walks away assuming the fight was over, Ken tells Kairi to wait and that he hasn't lost yet. He then fires a Hadoken and Tatsumaki and then he unleashed Shinryuken which sends Kairi flying.

Eliza rushes to Ken assuming the fight was over, but Ken tells her to stay back as he knew that wasn't enough to knock him out. Kairi gets back up unfazed and tells Ken they'll meet again someday and slowly makes his exit from the police that could be heard in the distance.

Ken and Eliza get back into the car and head for the airport. Having witnessed Kairi walking away with no visible injuries from Ken's attacks, made Ken realize that he's gotten weaker and that Chun-Li wasn't lying after all. While on his way to Japan, Ken remembers Chun-Li describing Ryu's location. She says that the place is protected under very strict discipline, any stranger who enters without permission of the dojo owner is very disliked. The owner will be less hostile if you're a guest of Ryu, but Chun-Li tells Ken to be careful regardless.[5]

Round 3 "Phantom of the Training Field" / Round 3 "Beautiful Intruder"[]

Ken and Eliza are walking through the forest heading to the dojo where Ryu’s located. Suddenly, Ken sensed that they were being watched and he calls out to whoever's watching from the shadows. Hokuto's voice can be heard telling them to leave, despite Ken's efforts to reason with her she attacks him.[6] Ken was impressed that the woman can keep up with him but was unable to block her special attack (Shinkuu Geki), Ken responds with a Shoryuken. He tries to use Hadoken but was hit by Chuugeki Hou, she then tries to follow up with another attack but was interrupted by Skullomania.

In the alternate scene Beautiful Intruder track, Hokuto was more willing to talk to Ken and Eliza without resorting to violence but before Ken could tell her that he's Ryu's friend Pullum Purna interrupts them instead. Both sequences are merely gags.

Having sensed Ken's hado, Ryu shows up and greets Ken and Eliza who he hasn't seen in quite some time. Ryu heard from Chun-Li that Ken won the martial arts championship again, was eager to see Ken's abilities. When Hokuto timidly asks Ryu who the visitors were, he introduces Ken as not only his friend but rival which shocks Hokuto who fought and got the upper hand on Ken moments before. Hokuto apologies to Ken for her rudeness.[7]

After everyone heads inside the dojo, where Hokuto makes green tea for the guests. Ryu already knew why Ken came to Japan and accepted his challenge. Hokuto however, intervened and asked Ryu if it's ok for her to fight Ken instead.

Final Round "Empty Duel"[]

Ken has no interest in fighting Hokuto as he only came to fight Ryu. Before the fight Ryu shows concern for Hokuto but she pretends nothing is troubling her.[8] Ken and Ryu begin to fight shortly after and Ryu quicky gains the upper hand, Ken goes for a Shoryuken but missed then Ryu used his own Shoryuken to win the fight. Ryu's surprised to see Ken in such a weak state, he tells Ken that his true power is nothing like this. Ryu can tell that Ken is lost and tells him to leave since the way Ken is right now, the fight would be one sided.[9]

As Ryu heads into the dojo, Ken calls out him. but Hokuto told Ken to talk to her instead so Ryu won't be saddened even more. From the moment she met Ken she knew this would happen eventually and asks if Ken has any "shine". Ken didn't know what she meant by "shine" but it's something all fighters have but Ken seems to have lost it. Because of this, Hokuto didn't want Ken to fight Ryu so she tried to fight Ken instead. After seeing Ryu, who she adores as much as she adores her brother, upset after the fight, she tells Ken to go home as she doesn't want to see him upset again.[10]

After she heads into the dojo, Ken leaves frustrated at his "rusted fist" and how he allowed himself to fall into such a state. He strikes a tree in anger which worries Eliza as she tells him to stop and that he's done enough but he continues to strike the tree asking himself how the national championship allowed his fist to get rusted. Ken remembers Hokuto's words and how she tried to fight Ken so she didn't have to see Ryu in upset and begins to feel guilty as he ignored the signs but decided to fight Ryu anyway.

Ken could tell as Ryu walked away that he was more upset at Ken's rusted fist than Ken was himself. Upon further reflection this outcome isn't surprising as it's the first time Ken's ever gotten weaker in his life so it's a shock to both of them.

Ken then has a flashback to the confrontation between Ryu and M. Bison at the end of the World Warrior Tournament. Before the final match, M. Bison asks Ryu to join him and in return he'll make Ryu stronger. Ryu rejects M. Bison's offer, telling the dictator that he has no hatred in his heart and that he only seeks a strong opponent. M. Bison then fights Ryu with the intent to kill, eventually resorting to his signature move Psycho Crusher to which Ryu counters with a Shoryuken. The defeated M. Bison tries to win over Ryu one more time promising Ryu that he'll have wealth and fame across the world if he joins him, however Ryu walks away saying he has no need for such things and hopes M. Bison heal his wounds as soon as possible.[11]

The scene then cuts back to the present where Ken runs back to Hokuto's dojo. She tells Ken to leave once again but he asks to see Ryu who followed Hokuto to see what's wrong. Ryu thought Ken came from a rematch but Ken admits that if he fights again, he'll lose for sure which caught Ryu off guard. The reason Ken got weaker is because he only cared about maintaining the title "champion", however after remembering Ryu's words towards M. Bison, he realizes seeking stronger opponents is more important. Ryu's happy to see the old Ken return and they promise to have a rematch once Ken becomes stronger, the scene ends with a now stronger Ken entering another tournament.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only drama CD that was officially mentioned when it comes to character backstory. In this case for Kairi and Bloody Hokuto.[12][13]
  • In Final Round "Empty Duel", Ken has a flashback to Ryu defeating M. Bison. This flashback most likely took place in the World Fighting Championship as M. Bison mentions wealth and fame as Ryu walks away showing no interest in them (like in his SFII ending).[11]
  • Akuma was mentioned by Ken in Round 2: "Bloodshed Bloodline".
